Banking License Granted

Banco Comercial Portugues S.A. 4 December 2000 Spanish authorities grant Banco Comercial Portugues ('BCP') and Banc Sabadell a new banking license (Lisbon, December 4, 2000) Banco Comercial Portugues (BCP, NYSE: BPC, BCPPRA) announced today that the spanish authorities have granted Banc Sabadell and BCP a license to launch a new bank. The bank, whose headquarters will be located in Madrid will start its activity in January 2001, with an initial share capital of 30,050,620 million Euros, equally held by BCP and Banc Sabadell. This initiative is part of the of the set of projects that were announced by the two banks in the context of their strategic partnership.
