BALFOUR BEATTY  SIGNS  £460 MILLION CONSTRUCTION

CONTRACT  AT  HEATHROW AIRPORT

Balfour Beatty, the international infrastructure group, announces today that it has signed the £460 million construction contract to deliver the second phase of a satellite building to support Heathrow Airport's new Terminal 2 - T2B for BAA.

Balfour Beatty will combine its design, construction, ground engineering, specialist mechanical and electrical expertise and the professional services capabilities of Parsons Brinckerhoff to deliver the project.

Balfour Beatty successfully delivered the first phase of T2B ahead of programme in November 2009.

The second phase of T2B, for which Balfour Beatty has already provided design services, will deliver a facility with 10 new aircraft gates in the area to the east of Terminal 1.  It will incorporate an underground link from the satellite to the main building of the new Terminal 2 development and a large baggage facility in the basement which will be subject to fit-out in the future.  Construction work is due to begin in October 2010.

Balfour Beatty Chief Executive, Ian Tyler, said:

"We are delighted to have been awarded this work, providing an integrated service for one of our major UK customers.  We have a strong track record in delivering complex projects for BAA at Heathrow, including the rail systems elements of Terminal 5 and Terminal 2B Phase 1."

BAA Capital Director, Steven Morgan, said;

"This contract represents another milestone in the modernisation of Heathrow Airport.  I look forward to continuing our work with Balfour Beatty to ensure delivery on time, on budget, safely and to world-class levels of quality."

In 2008, Balfour Beatty was appointed as one of BAA's third generation framework construction suppliers, capable of delivering both complex and commodity build works across the BAA portfolio of airports that encompasses both pre-construction advice as well as construction delivery services.  Since that appointment, Balfour Beatty has successfully delivered projects for BAA at Heathrow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Stansted and Southampton airports.
