Holding in Company

Balfour Beatty plc ('the Company') today received notice from FMR Corp. ('FMR
Corp.') and its direct and indirect subsidiaries and Fidelity International
Limited ('FIL') and its direct and indirect subsidiaries that their
non-beneficial notifiable interest in the ordinary share capital of the
Company now comprises 29,473,985 ordinary shares, representing 7.12% of the
issued ordinary share capital of the Company.  The notifiable interests of FMR
Corp. and FIL also comprise the notifiable interests of Mr Edward C. Johnson
III, principal shareholder of both FMR Corp. and FIL.



FMR Corp. and FIL have informed us that these shares are held solely for
investment purposes.
