On 18 September 2003, Mr M W Welton, a director of the Company, exercised
matured options over 1,274 50p Ordinary Shares in the Company that were held
under the Company's Savings Related Share Option Scheme, having been granted on
24 May 2000.  The exercise price was 76p per 50p Ordinary Share.

Following this transaction, Mr Welton holds 137,880 50p Ordinary Shares in the
Company, and options over a total of 32,815 50p Ordinary Shares in the Company.
