BALFOUR BEATTY AWARDED EDUCATION SECTOR 

CONTRACTS WORTH £191 MILLION


Balfour Beatty, the international infrastructure group operating in construction services, professional services, support services and infrastructure investments, announces today that it has been awarded education sector contracts worth £191 million. 


Balfour Beatty has been awarded the £100 million Greenwich Schools Building Schools for the Future (BSF) construction partner contract by VT Group.  The Greenwich BSF contract is a design and build contract for two schools:


Thomas Tallis, a 1,950 pupil secondary school which will be equipped with a gymnasium to meet the British Gymnastic and British Judo Association's requirements and which has qualified as a 2012 Olympic training base camp;

Crown Woods, a 1,800 pupil secondary school to be split into three colleges, two for mixed ability pupils and one for gifted and talented pupils.


Occupation of Thomas Tallis is expected in October 2011 with occupation expected in April 2011 for Crown Woods.


Following Balfour Beatty's appointment as one of three Framework contractors to the North Lanarkshire Council Schools and Centres 21 Framework, it has secured design and preconstruction services on four schools to the value of £91 million. 


Construction work on the North Lanarkshire Council Schools and Centres 21 Framework is expected to commence on site in 2010 for four schools:

  

St Ambrose & Drumpark ASN High School in Coatbridge, which will accommodate 1,350 secondary pupils, together with associated community and community sports facilities including six sports pitches and a Hydropool;

Calderhead High School in Shotts; a 550 pupil new-build school built on the site of the existing high school, which is to be demolished as part of the new development;

Caldervale High School in Airdrie; a 950 pupil high school involving the part demolition of the existing school, with a new PE facility and refurbishment of remaining blocks; and

Alexandra and Rochsolloch shared primary campus school, in Airdrie; a 550 pupil new build school with shared facilities including a library, catering and sports together with associated community facilities and a nursery.


Commenting on the contract awards today, Balfour Beatty Chief Executive, Ian Tyler, said:

Balfour Beatty has already successfully delivered 24 new schools in North Lanarkshire as part of the £150 million Education 2010 PPP project.
