NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AT BALFOUR BEATTY

Balfour Beatty, the international engineering, construction and services group
announces today the appointment of Sir David John as a non-executive Director
of Balfour Beatty plc.

Sir David John, 62, is Chairman of The BOC Group, Chairman of Premier Oil, and
a non-executive Director of The St Paul Cos Inc of Minnesota in the USA.  His
previous career was with United Steel, RTZ, Redland and Inchcape, where he was
an executive director from 1988-1995, prior to joining the Board of BOC.
