                       PURCHASE OF SHARES FOR CANCELLATION

Schroder UK Growth Fund plc announces that on 5 January 2001, the Company
purchased a total of 70,000 shares for cancellation at a price of 135.50 pence
per share. Following these purchases, there are a further 195,040,263 shares in
issue.
