THE BAILLIE GIFFORD JAPAN TRUST PLC (the "Company")

Additional Block Listing

The Company has made an application to the UK Listing Authority and the London Stock Exchange Plc for a block listing of 3,136,754 ordinary shares of 5p each (the "Shares") to be admitted to the Official List of the UK Listing Authority and to trading on the London Stock Exchange's main market for listed securities.

Shares will be issued under the block listing for general business purposes subject to guidelines laid down by the Board and in accordance with the Company's Articles of Association.  Any Shares will, when issued, rank pari passu with the existing Shares of the Company.

The block listing is expected to become effective at 8:00 a.m. on 16 May 2014.
