                            Block Listing of Shares





The Baillie Gifford Japan Trust PLC (the Company) announces that an application
has been made to the UK Listing Authority and the London Stock Exchange for the
block listing of 800,000 ordinary shares of 5p each in the Company.



The Company may issue any or all of these shares for cash from time to time
provided always that such issues will be made at prices above the then
prevailing net asset value per share.
