Purchase of own securities

The issuer advises that the following replaces the Transaction in Own Shares
announcement released erroneously on 5 October 2006 at 14:40 under 
RNS Number 0316K.

Due to an administrative error, the number of ordinary twenty-five pence shares
repurchased was reported as 600,052. The figure stated in the announcement
should have read 400,000.  Therefore the number of ordinary twenty-five pence
shares which remain in issue following cancellation is 81,418,339.


The announcement set out below is the fully corrected version:

The Board of the Company announces that it has today made a market purchase of
400,000 ordinary shares of twenty-five pence each in the capital of the Company
(SEDOL No.0365602), representing 0.49% of the current issued ordinary
share capital of the Company, for cancellation at a price of 153.25 pence per
ordinary share.

Following cancellation, 81,418,339 ordinary shares in the Company will
remain in issue.
