It is with great sadness that the Board has to announce that Eric Elstob has
today died after a long illness.

Eric was appointed to the Board in 1984. He was involved with the investment
trust industry for much of his career in the City. He had a wealth of experience
of international markets, particularly those in the Far East, having managed
investments there since 1968.

His experience and contribution to the Company was much respected and
appreciated by his fellow Directors, who will all miss him enormously.
