Gordon Campbell to step down as Babcock Chairman; Mike Turner to become Non-Executive Chairman 

Babcock International Group PLC, the support services company, announces that its Chairman, Gordon Campbell CBE, will stand down as Chairman later this year after eight years with the company.

Gordon will be succeeded as non-executive Chairman by Mike Turner CBE, Chief Executive of BAE Systems for the past six years and formerly a non-executive Director of Babcock for nine years. Mike will join the board of Babcock as a Non-Executive Director on 1 June and will become Chairman on 1 November 2008. 

Gordon Campbell said: ``It is with some regret that I stand down after an exciting and, I believe, successful eight years, in which we have transformed Babcock from an unfocused engineering company into a dynamic support services provider. 

``A successful company can be judged not only by its financial performance and return to shareholders, but also by its ability to provide orderly and timely succession. With this in mind, I have decided to stand down later this year, and we have been fortunate to persuade Mike Turner to succeed me as Non-Executive Chairman. His wealth of experience and his knowledge of Babcock make him ideal for this role and I wish him well.''

Mike Turner said: ``I have a long association with Babcock, having previously worked for the Company as a non-executive Director. I am honoured and privileged to be given the opportunity to serve again with another of Britain's great companies and look forward to this new challenge.''

  Notes to Editors

• Gordon Campbell has served on the Board of Babcock since 10 October 2000 when he was appointed as Group Chief Executive, and from 2001 to August 2003 he was Executive Chairman.

• With the separation of roles of Chief Executive and Chairman on 1 August 2003 he became part-time Chairman. 

• He received a CBE in 2006 for services to business and engineering.

• Mr Campbell is Chairman of British Nuclear Fuels plc and Chairman of Jupiter Second Split Trust PLC. He is also a Non-Executive Director of Accsys Technologies PLC and Jsst Securities Limited. 

• Mike Turner was appointed Chief Executive of BAE Systems in March 2002, having previously been Chief Operating Officer at the company. 

• Mike served as a Non-Executive Director of Babcock between 1996 and December 2005. 

• He received a CBE in 1999 for services to the Aerospace industry. 

• He is currently a non-executive director of Lazard Ltd, having been appointed in 2006.

• Between December 2005 and March 2006 he was a non-executive director of The Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company.

• In compliance with Rule 9.6.13R (1) of the Listing Rules, Mr Turner's other directorships of publicly quoted companies within the last five years are mentioned in the notes above. There is no information to disclose pursuant to the remaining subparagraphs of that Rule.
