European White Paper

Intermodal Resource Plc 27 June 2006 27th June 2006 Intermodal Resource plc ('Intermodal Resource' or the 'Company') Response to the European Commission's mid-term review of 2001 transport White Paper Intermodal Resource welcomes the European Commission's mid-term review of the 2001 Transport White Paper (the 'Review') which recognises the importance of the efficient use of different transport systems in isolation or in combination. The Review outlines the orientation for future EU transport policy in line with changing circumstances, in order to optimise existing means of transportation. In the Review published on 22 June 2006 the European Commission notes that a move from road to rail will not inevitably bring the environmental gains previously anticipated and that road transport has been successful in significantly reducing vehicle emissions. As a result of the Review, the Commission will adopt a logistics action plan in 2007 in order to improve synergies between road, sea, rail and river, and integrate various transport modes in logistics chains adopted by corporates. The anticipated improvement in efficiency is designed to provide industry with a competitive edge at the same time as further minimising the environmental impact per unit of freight. Commenting on the publication of the Review, Robert Montague, Chief Executive of Intermodal Resource said: 'It is extremely encouraging that the White Paper has finally recognised the importance of road transport to the overall mobility network and the positive impact it can have on the EU economy. 'I am confident that the move towards a more socially responsible transport network with the introduction of Euro IV emission standards and the digital tachograph will be welcomed by all those companies in our industry that take an accountable attitude towards safety and the safeguarding of the environment.'
