Over the month NAV was up 2.0%1. This compares to an increase in the benchmark of 0.5%2 and 1.2%1 for the MSCI World (£), and a decrease of 0.3%1 for the FTSE All Share indices. Financial* year to date, net asset value rose 7.3%1 compared to a rise of 6.4%2 for the Datastream index, 4.8%1 for the MSCI World (£) and 5.9%1 for the FTSE All Share. Over three years NAV is up 98.8%1 while the FTSE All Share is up 61.8%1. Manager's Comment The liquidity position has reduced somewhat as we have added to our wider discount holdings and have started a couple of new holdings in the energy sector. Markets so far this year have been buoyant based on expectations for further strong economic growth and moderate inflation. While we have been cautious of fully embracing the bull case for stocks, we have managed to find some investments that we think give us some upside and, at the same time have strong asset backing that could, hopefully, limit the downside in case of a setback. The recent performance of Japanese stocks, one of last year's laggards, has also been encouraging.
