Interim Dividend

The Board of British Empire Securities and General Trust p.l.c. has today
declared an interim dividend in respect of the year ending 30 September 2002 of
0.40p per ordinary share.

The interim dividend will have a record date of 31 May 2002 and will be paid on
14 June 2002 to ordinary shareholders on the register at the record date.
