                    REPURCHASE OF SHARES IN ASTRAZENECA PLC


Further to the announcement of its close period share repurchase programme,
AstraZeneca PLC announced that under the terms of that programme it purchased
for cancellation 393,211 ordinary shares of AstraZeneca PLC at a price of 3346
pence per share on 13 October 2006. Upon the cancellation of these shares, the
number of shares in issue will be 1,546,975,890.
