                                   ANNOUNCEMENT


Application has been made to the UK Listing Authority for 448,132 ordinary
shares of 25p each fully paid to be admitted to the Official List and to trading
on the London Stock Exchange. These shares are being issued today as the final
tranche of deferred consideration in relation to the acquisition in 1997 of J E
Mumford (Holdings) Limited, at that time the holding company of the managing
agency of Lloyd's syndicate 1141.

The shares will rank pari passu in all respects with the existing issued
ordinary share capital of the Company.

The issued share capital of Amlin is now 387,640,108 ordinary shares of 25p
each.
