('the Company' or 'ABE plc')


The Company announces that the Chairman, J.H. Davies, has advised ABE plc that
he intends to retire from the Board on 31 October 2000.

The poll called at the annual general meeting on Tuesday, 19 September 2000,
and due to be held on Wednesday, 18 October 2000 at the Company's registered
office, has been withdrawn.
