RE:  Ashtead Group plc

The Company has been advised, in response to Section 212 Enquiries, of the
following holdings which are shown as a percentage of the current issued share
capital of 323,611,327 ordinary shares:

     Schroder Investment Management Limited:

          40,815,030 shares representing 12.61% of issued share capital

     Chase Nominees Limited:

          70,768,464 shares representing 21.87% of issued share capital of which

          19,023,915 shares, 5.88% of share capital, are held as nominee for 
          Schroder Investment Management interests.

It has been several months since a report has been made in respect of the above
parties and any movement since then would be a net figure for any number of
transactions.
