Purchase of own shares  

Ashmore Group plc ('Ashmore') announces that on 17 October 2008 it purchased 1,391,263 ordinary shares of 0.01p each at an average price of 152.63 pence per ordinary share. These shares will be held as treasury shares.

The highest price paid was 160.00 pence per share and the lowest price paid was 143.75 pence per share.  

Following these purchases, Ashmore holds 1,391,263 ordinary shares as treasury shares and has 707,533,737 ordinary shares in issue (excluding treasury shares). Ashmore shareholders should use 707,533,737 as the denominator to determine if they are required to notify their interest in, or a change to their interest in Ashmore under the FSA's Disclosure and Transparency Rules.
