                       PURCHASE OF OWN SECURITIES


Pursuant  to  the general authority granted by shareholders  on  12  May
1999,  the  Board of Secure Trust Banking Group PLC (the 'Company')  has
today  (3  December 1999) purchased 486,842 of its ordinary  1p  shares,
representing 3.2% of the issued share capital of the Company at a  price
of 380p per share.
