                          ARBUTHNOT BANKING GROUP PLC

                                 AGM STATEMENT


At the Annual General Meeting to be held at 3.00 pm this afternoon, Henry
Angest, Chairman and Chief Executive of Arbuthnot Banking Group PLC, will make
the following statement on behalf of the Board:-

'Trading so far this year has been satisfactory overall, with a strong
performance from Arbuthnot Securities offsetting some weakness in Secure Trust
Bank. In common with similar businesses, the result for the full year will
depend in large measure on the extent and timing of corporate finance deals,
which in turn are sensitive to stock market conditions. That said, the directors
are optimistic regarding the outlook for the remainder of 2006.'
