                     Retirement of Non-Executive Director

Microgen plc announces the retirement of non-executive director, Andrew
Goodman from the Board of Directors. Andrew was appointed a director in August 
1998 and is retiring to concentrate on his other business commitments.

Martyn Ratcliffe, Chairman, commented ' Andrew joined the Board in 1998 at the
start of the transformation of the Group and his contribution during this
period has been valued and appreciated. We thank him for his assistance and
wish him well for the future in his other business activities.'
