APPOINTMENT OF NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

London, 10 April 2013

Antofagasta plc ("Antofagasta") announces that Mr. Andrónico Luksic Craig was appointed a Non-Executive Director of the Company by the Board on 9 April 2013.

Mr. Luksic has extensive experience across a range of business sectors throughout Chile and Latin America.  He is Chairman of Quiñenco S.A., a company listed on the Santiago stock exchange. He is also on the board of directors of Banco de Chile, Compañia Sudamericana de Vapores S.A., Compañia Cervecerías Unidas S.A. and Madeco S.A., all of which are listed companies in the Quiñenco group.

Mr. Luksic, aged 58, is based in Santiago and is a Chilean citizen.

The Company said today: "We are very pleased that Andrónico Luksic has agreed to join the Board of Antofagasta.  He brings a wealth of experience across a range of sectors both in Chile and internationally as well as recognised entrepreneurial skills."

For the purposes of the UK Corporate Governance Code, Mr. Luksic is not considered by the Board to be independent. Save as disclosed above, there are no disclosures under Listing Rule 9.6.13(1) to (6) in respect of Mr. Luksic.
