TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFER

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4 Anglo American plc announces that on 7 September 2010, 27,978 shares were transferred out of the Company's holding of treasury shares in order to satisfy maturing share options under the Company's SAYE and ESOS plans and in respect of shares under the Share Incentive Plan.

Following the transfer, Anglo American plc has a total of 23,436,683 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,319,494,605 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
