TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFERS

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4, Anglo American plc announces that on 5^th and 6^th January 2011 respectively, 24,500 shares were transferred out of the Company's holding of treasury shares in order to satisfy maturing share options under the Company's ESOS plan and 390 shares were transferred out of the Company's holding of treasury shares to satisfy maturing share options under the Company's SAYE plan.

Following the transfers, Anglo American plc has a total of 22,850,578 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,320,083,272 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
