TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFER

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4, Anglo American plc announces that on 26 and 27 October 2010 respectively, 2,912 and 18,000 shares were transferred out of the Company's holding of treasury shares in order to satisfy maturing share options under the Company's SAYE and ESOS plans.

Following the transfers, Anglo American plc has a total of 23,227,326 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,319,705,388 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
