Tim Wadeson Retires from the Board

Anglo American PLC 29 December 1999 Anglo American plc announces the retirement from the Board of Mr T C A Wadeson, Technical Director with effect from December 31, 1999. Tim Wadeson joined the Anglo Group in 1961. After working at Western Deep Levels he was seconded, in 1967, to the London Office. From 1970 to 1976 he worked in Zambia as an Underground Manager and Mine Superintendent at Nchanga. In 1976 he was promoted to General Manager of Bindura Nickel in Zimbabwe and in 1979 he took up a position as Consulting Engineer with Anglo's Harare Office, becoming Technical Director of Anglo Zimbabwe in 1980. In 1985 he transferred to Johannesburg as Deputy Technical Director (Mining) of AAC. In 1990 he moved to Minorco as Technical Director until his return to Johannesburg in 1994 as Group Technical Director and an Executive Director of AAC. Commenting on Mr Wadeson's retirement, Anglo American's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Julian Ogilvie Thompson said 'Tim Wadeson's contribution over 38 years to the development of the Anglo American Group has been particularly valuable. In recent years he has been intimately involved in bringing into production numerous complex mining projects throughout the world.'
