Anglo American plc ('AA plc') announces that James Campbell, an executive
director of AA plc and responsible for the Base Metals and Coal divisions,
will shortly be leaving the group. He will relinquish his directorships of AA
plc and Anglo American Corporation of South Africa Limited on 31 July 2001 and
will remain with Anglo Operations Limited in South Africa until 31 December
2001 as a nominated director of some subsidiary and associate companies.

As a consequence, Simon Thompson, chief executive of the Base Metals division
and Tony Redman, chief executive of the Coal division, will report directly to
Tony Trahar, chief executive of AA plc.
