                                 EXXARO OPTIONS

As part of the Kumba Resources unbundling and empowerment transaction, which led
to the creation of Kumba Iron Ore and Exxaro Resources, Anglo American granted
Exxaro an option to acquire 10 million Exxaro shares from Anglo American. In
addition, in order to increase the Exxaro free float, Anglo American agreed with
Kumba Resources that it would make a further 9 million shares available for sale
at the same time.

Anglo American confirms that 19 million Exxaro shares have been sold.
