The Company announces that it was notified by Mr N F Nicolau, a PDMR of the Company, that, on 5 August 2009, Mr Nicolau purchased 2,000 Anglo American plc Ordinary shares (the "Shares") at a price of R262.40 per share. Accordingly, Mr Nicolau's beneficial interest in Shares has increased by 2,000.

The notification of this transaction is to satisfy the Company's obligations under the Companies Act and the Financial Services Authority Disclosure and Transparency Rules.
