*       Successful gas well at Alta Loma

*       Participation in new exploration well at Sabine Lake



Aminex PLC, the oil and gas company listed on the London and Dublin Stock
Exchanges, announces the successful completion and testing of the Sunny Ernst
No. 1 well in the Alta Loma field, Galveston County, Texas, USA.  During its
initial test, the No. 1 well flowed at a rate of 3.0 million cubic feet gas,
plus 107 barrels condensate, per day on an 8/64ths' choke and with a flowing
casing pressure of 9,322 pounds per square inch.  The shut-in casing-head
pressure was 9,632 pounds per square inch.  The well is currently closed-in
for pressure build-up measurements.



The well was drilled to a total vertical depth of 15,319 ft.  Multiple gas
sands over an interval of 1,256 ft. were encountered, only two of which have
so far been tested: the Tacquard formation (lower Frio) was perforated from
14,966 - 14,984ft. and 15,101 - 15,106 ft.  Aminex USA, a wholly owned
subsidiary of Aminex PLC, has a 37.5% working interest in this well.  The
other participants in the lease are PetroCorp Incorporated (operator) and
Peoples Energy Productions.



Aminex estimates that some 6 - 10 billion cubic feet of recoverable gas may be
attributed to this well.  There are several additional prospects within the
leased acreage and further drilling is expected in 2002.



Aminex also announces its participation in an exploration well at Sabine Lake,
Orange County, Texas, USA, which is targetting the Hackberry gas sands.
Aminex has a working interest of 10.625% in this well, the results of which
will be announced to shareholders at the appropriate time.



Commenting on this result Brian Hall, Aminex Chief Executive, said:



'The successfully completed well at Alta Loma, and the planned expansion into
the Sabine Lake area, are expected to establish new sources of cash flow for
the Aminex Group.  In addition to the intervals tested, the Sunny-Ernst £1
well has material behind-pipe reserves which will be available to the Group in
the future'.
