NOTIFICATION OF MAJOR INTEREST IN SHARES


Alkane Energy was informed on 10 May that on 9 May Apax Partners Ltd sold
1,631,000 ordinary shares in the Company held in the nominee account of Apax
(OCS) Nominees Limited. As a result of the sale, Apax Partners Ltd are now
interested in 3,140,000 ordinary shares representing 3.42% of the issued share
capital of the Company. These shares are beneficially held for Apax UK V-A, L.P,
and Apax UK-B.


The issued ordinary share capital of the Company is 91,926,924 ordinary shares
of 0.5 pence each.
