ANNOUNCEMENT ON KEY OPERATING DATA OF AUGUST 2016

 

In August 2016, Air China Limited (the "Company"), and its subsidiaries (the "Group") recorded an increase in combined passenger traffic (measured by revenue passenger kilometers ("RPK")) as compared to the same period last year and to last month, respectively. Compared to the same period last year, passenger capacity (measured by available seat kilometers ("ASK")) increased by 7.0%, while passenger traffic, increased by 7.4%. For domestic routes, passenger capacity and passenger traffic increased by 1.4% and 3.1%, respectively, as compared to the same period last year. For international routes, passenger capacity and passenger traffic increased by 19.2% and 16.8%, respectively, as compared to the same period last year. For regional routes, passenger capacity and passenger traffic decreased by 8.6% and 8.1%, respectively, as compared to the same period last year. The overall passenger load factor was 84.6%, an increase of 0.3 percentage point compared to the same period last year. The passenger load factor for domestic and regional grew by 1.4 percentage points and 0.4 percentage point respectively while the passenger load factor of international routes saw a decrease of 1.7 percentage points.

 

The Company launched a Beijing-Shiyan route (four times a week) on 7 August 2016, a Xining- Chengdu-Tokyo route (four times a week) on 12 August 2016, and a Chongqing-Korla route (four times a week) on 29 August   2016.

 

In terms of cargo operations, in August 2016, both Revenue Freight Tonne Kilometres ("RFTK")) and freight tonnage carried recorded an increase on a year-on-year basis and a monthly basis. Cargo capacity (measured by available freight tonne kilometers ("AFTK")) rose by 5.7% year-on-year. Cargo and mail traffic increased by 8.8% and volume of cargo and mail uplifted grew by 6.5% as compared to the same period last year. The cargo load factor was 54.7% in August 2016, representing a year-on-year increase of 1.5 percentage points.

 

In August 2016, the Group added one B787-9, one A320, and retired one B777-200 and one B737- 800. As at the end of August 2016, the Group operated a fleet of 607 aircraft.
