White Nile Limited 01 August 2005 1st August 2005 White Nile Limited ('White Nile' or 'the Company') White Nile Ltd, the AIM listed oil and gas exploration company, announces that it has been informed that Dr John Garang, the First Vice President of the Republic of Sudan and the President of the Government of South Sudan, has died in an air crash on his return from an official visit to Uganda. The Company is extremely saddened by the news and offers its condolences to Dr Garang's family and the people of Sudan. White Nile has been in contact with its major shareholder Nile Petroleum Corporation and representatives of the South Sudanese Government. It has been informed that the new constitution will continue to be implemented and that the death of Dr Garang will not affect the planned development of the country under the terms of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement ('CPA') signed at the beginning of the year. White Nile Chairman Phil Edmonds said: 'We are all extremely saddened to hear this news and we offer the utmost sympathy to the people of South Sudan and in particular Dr John's family. We will continue to work closely with our partners in South Sudan and will provide the people with all the support we can in order for them to continue to develop their oil industry and infrastructure.
