NDS LAUNCHES METRO(TM) HIGH DEFINITION DIGITAL VIDEO RECORDER WITH AMINO; SES AMERICOM ANNOUNCED AS FIRST CUSTOMER Industry-first allows broadcasters and telcos to offer AmiNET530 High Definition DVRs with full turnkey content protection NDS, the leading technology provider for digital pay-TV, has introduced its High Definition Digital Video Recorder, an Amino AmiNET530 Set-Top Box (STB) powered by Metro middleware, for the IPTV market - a first for the OpenCA industry. NDS Metro(TM) is an integrated IPTV middleware and conditional access solution that provides a complete end-to-end turnkey offering for telecommunications companies and broadband operators. SES AMERICOM, the only company currently delivering MPEG4 IPTV service to telcos in the US, is the first customer and will integrate the HD DVR solution into its IP-PRIME(R) IPTV solution for service providers. NDS will offer innovative revenue driving opportunities and features for telco and broadband operators by integrating its solution with the world-class Amino AmiNET530 interactive STB. At TelcoTV, NDS demonstrated key elements of the advanced viewer experience for the first time, including one-touch recording, scheduling a recording through the electronic programming guide (EPG) and disk playback capabilities. The NDS Metro solution ensures that video content is protected at all times with the HD MPEG4 DVR, regardless of when it is recorded or played. NDS Metro is part of the NDS MediaHighway middleware family of products, which is currently deployed around the world on more than 61 million set-top boxes. Metro also provides conditional access and digital rights management via NDS VideoGuard(R), the most widely used conditional access solution in the world, currently protecting content on more than 75 million set-top boxes globally. AMINET130 COMPLETES MPEGIF LOGO QUALIFICATION PROGRAM FOR MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 World's first HD MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 IPTV STB to obtain top level conformance Amino's AmiNET130 Set-Top Box (STB) is the first HD MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 IPTV STB to meet the Premium Conformance Tier of the MPEGIF Logo Qualification Program offered by the MPEG Industry Forum (MPEGIF). MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 is a part of the MPEG-4 standard (MPEG-4 Part 10) and enables the AmiNET130 to deliver video compression offering high quality at low-bit rates. This effective compression technology offers excellent results across a broad range of bandwidths including the transport of High Definition (HD) streams for entertainment services and TV broadcasting. The AmiNET130 uses the latest innovations in video compression technology to provide the optimum in HD quality using compressed video data. This means users with low bandwidth speed available at their homes can still benefit from a HD video experience. MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 gives as high quality as MPEG-2 but with up to a half the data rate by using the best compression technology available. The AmiNET130 is an advanced STB enabling service providers to deliver end-to-end digital High Definition TV as multicast, on-demand video and multi-room IPTV services. AMINO POWERS FIRST WIRELESS IPTV CONNECTED HOMES IN LATIN AMERICA Telefonica del Sur deploys Amino's industry 'de-facto' IPTV Set-Top Boxes to thousands of customers in Chile Telefonica del Sur (Telsur), a leading provider of Internet-based multimedia and communication services in Chile, has selected the AmiNET110 IPTV Set-Top Box (STB) to deliver pure IPTV services to thousands of its customers in the region. Telsur is distributing content to the AmiNET110 via Wi-Fi, creating the first wireless in-home multimedia solution in Latin America. Launched in July, Telsur's 'WiTV' IPTV service is being offered on its broadband network between the southern Chilean cities of Concepcion and Puerto Montt. Telsur has invested heavily in upgrading and expanding its broadband network. Currently, with the AmiNET110, Telsur offers 100 channels of standard definition digital television via IP with an electronic program guide, parental control options and video on demand capabilities. The company has installed connected home IPTV services in volume with an average of two STBs per home. The AmiNET110 STB is based on Amino's award-winning compact design and is compatible with the MPEG-2 video compression standard, the most common format for digital IPTV content today. The unit features an Ethernet input and flexible audio/video output with a USB interface for game controllers and other devices.
