The  Board of the Morgan Grenfell Latin American Companies Trust PLC announces
that  the  Company has yesterday, 20 January 2000, purchased for  cancellation
75,000 ordinary shares in the Company at a price of 81.0p per share.

Following this purchase there are now 61,661,050 ordinary shares in issue.
