Board Change

The Board of Standard Life plc ('the Company') announces the following change.

Colin Buchan will retire from the Board of the Company at the conclusion of the Annual General Meeting to be held on 13 May 2014.  He has been a non-executive director of the Company since January 2008 and during that time has served as Chairman of the Investment Committee.  Colin was also a member of the Audit Committee; Remuneration Committee and Nomination and Governance Committee.

Colin's involvement with Standard Life began in February 2002 when he was appointed as a non-executive director to the board of Standard Life Investments Limited ('SLI') and he served as a director of SLI, including three years as Chairman, until 31 December 2011.

Commenting on Colin's retirement from the Board of the Company, Gerry Grimstone, Chairman, said:

"Colin Buchan has given excellent service to Standard Life for more than 12 years.  He was part of the Board that was instrumental in developing Standard Life Investments into the successful global business it is today and has served with distinction on the Group Board for the last 6 years.  We will miss his common sense and no-nonsense approach."

Following these changes, the Board of Standard Life plc will comprise two executive directors, seven non-executive directors and the Chairman.  The Board will be made up of two women and eight men.  A selection process is underway to appoint an additional non-executive director.
