The order is valued at US$ 75 million. Under the terms of the agreement, ABB will provide underbody assembly lines and the general body assembly workshop, as well as a line control system, at two Renault plants in France and Spain. The lines will be used to manufacture a new car to replace Renault's Megane model. The assembly lines will be operational by the end of 2001 to allow vehicle production as from March 2002. In 1998, Renault chose ABB to provide similar technology when it replaced three earlier vehicle models. Because of its modular design, ABB's automotive assembly line system gives customers greater flexibility, allowing them to get more productivity from their existing floor space. ABB serves customers in power transmission and distribution; automation; oil, gas, and petrochemicals; building technologies; and in financial services. Power generation customers are served by the joint venture ABB ALSTOM POWER. The ABB Group employs about 105,000 people in more than 100 countries.
