ABB Ltd 21 January 2004 ABB wins US$ 41 million in orders for China's petrochemical industry Products will improve electricity supply and help boost productivity Zurich, Switzerland, January 21, 2004 - ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, said today that it has won orders worth more than US$ 41 million to supply switchgear and transformer products to two major Chinese petrochemical companies. ABB said the equipment would ensure reliable power supply and help boost production at petrochemical plants run by CNOOC-Shell Petrochemical Company Ltd., and Shanghai SECCO Petrochemical Company Ltd. 'Our considerable experience in China and technology leadership mean we can deliver high-quality products quickly,' said Peter Smits, head of ABB's Power Technologies division. 'Our technically advanced power products will increase plant capacity and improve our customers' productivity.' Under the terms of the contract, ABB will supply medium and low-voltage switchgear, distribution transformers, and SCADA power monitoring systems for the petrochemical plants. Most of the equipment will be manufactured by ABB factories in China. All deliveries will be completed by mid-2004. ABB has won a number of petrochemical plant contracts in China in recent years. In mid-2003, ABB won a US$ 123 million from Shanghai SECCO Petrochemical Company Ltd. to develop part of a new petrochemical complex.
