APPOINTMENT OF NEW DIRECTORS

3i Group Plc announces the appointments of:

(a) Mr Oliver Stocken as a non-executive Director of the Company, and

(b) Mr Roderick Perry as an executive Director of the Company;

    both with effect from 1 September 1999.

Mr Stocken is aged 57 years and is currently Finance Director of Barclays PLC
and a non-executive director of MEPC plc, Pilkington plc, Rank Group plc and
Bunzl plc.

Mr Perry is aged 54 years and has responsibilities for 3i's investment 
business in Asia Pacific and for Group Services.
