Further to the announcement made on 12 July 2006 that 3i Group plc (the 
'Company') had decided to appoint Mr Robert Swannell as a non-executive Director
of the Company with effect from 1 September 2006, the Company announces that the
appointment has today become effective.


The Company has been notified that as at his appointment date of 1 September
2006 Mr Swannell was interested (within the meaning of sections 324 to 328 of
the Companies Act 1985) in 11,000 ordinary shares of 62 69/88p each in the
Company. This interest was notified to the Company in accordance with section
324 of the Companies Act 1985.
