1Spatial launches Socium - Changing the quality of spatial data

1Spatial, a holding company focused on improving the quality and access to business critical location-data across the globe, today marks a new era in the world of spatial data quality with the exciting launch of Socium, a Software as a Service company that is changing the industry by opening up the world of data quality to everyone and offering new, online data validation and management services in the cloud.

Socium Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of 1Spatial Holdings Plc, and the proven technology powering the services is 1Spatial's rules engine which is utilised by numerous National Mapping and Charting Agencies worldwide. By embracing technology trends and using cloud technology, Socium is eliminating the need for its users to invest in software or infrastructure whilst still being able to benefit from state of the art technology.

Socium's first offering, the Online Validation Service*, has been designed to make data quality accessible to everyone by providing an easy to use, zero cost of ownership, independent data validation solution enabling organisations to have real confidence in sharing and utilising their data to underpin their business.

Data is easily loaded into the system and validated against a set of standard or user-defined business rules with all non-conforming features being identified. The overview screen inside the service, shows a summary report of what and how many features failed and a report is created that can be downloaded ready for users to load into their existing applications for visualisation and correction.

There is also a free version of the service which enables users to load their data into the service, utilise the Geometric, Network or polygon validation rule sets and independently quantify the errors in a matter of seconds.

Socium will not only provide a series of data quality and management services in the cloud but also create a community of spatial data users. In addition to traditional social media activities, the company will launch its own collaborative environment to create the Socium Community to enable users to share and benefit from each other's knowledge, experience and ideas.
