             UNITED UTILITIES SECURES METERING CONTRACT EXTENSION              

                           WITH BRITISH GAS TRADING                            

United Utilities PLC today announces that it has secured an extension to its
metering contract with British Gas Trading Limited through to 2010.

The contract commenced in 2002 and covers meter provision and maintenance in
the north of England and north Wales, serving around 5 million gas and
electricity customers, and was valued at approximately £276 million. This
18-month extension through to 30 June 2010 is estimated to be worth an
additional £45 million in revenue to United Utilities.

Chief Executive of United Utilities, Philip Green, said:

our strong performance in the metering sector and further supports our position
as the leading utility infrastructure outsourcing company in the UK."
