The following contingent option award was granted on 30 January 2009 pursuant
to the performance share plan approved by the shareholders at the Annual
General Meeting on 21 July 2000 and amended at the Annual General Meeting on 28
July 2006. The figures reflect the maximum number of shares over which the
option might be exercised. The actual number will depend upon the extent to
which the established performance conditions are satisfied over the performance
period. Under the rules, the awards are subject to uplift for notional
dividends made or paid during the performance period. Accordingly, as at the
date of the award, 810 dividend shares have been added to the award in respect
of the dividend of 31.47 pence per share paid on 8th August 2008 making a total
award of 18,577 ordinary shares.
