4 August, 2005 NORTHWEST SELECTS ROLLS-ROYCE TRENT 1000 FOR ITS BOEING 787s Northwest Airlines has selected Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines for its new fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliners. The order, potentially worth up to $2 billion at list prices, is for installed and spare engines for 18 firm aircraft, plus up to 18 option aircraft, and includes a long-term TotalCare maintenance agreement, managed by Rolls-Royce. Northwest will be the first North American-based airline to introduce the Boeing 787 into commercial service. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in August 2008. Mike Terrett, President, Civil Aerospace, Rolls-Royce, said: "The partnership of the Dreamliner and the Trent 1000 will enable Northwest to grow its international route network with world-best levels of technical efficiency and operating economics. This selection marks the beginning of what we hope will be a long and fruitful relationship between Northwest and Rolls-Royce." We are confident the Trent 1000 will deliver competitive ownership and strong reliability, supported by comprehensive maintenance service." Firm orders have now been placed for 70 Trent 1000-powered Boeing 787s. Previous announcements involved a 50-aircraft order from launch customer ANA (All Nippon Airways), and two Dreamliners for Air New Zealand. NOTE TO EDITORS 1. The Trent 1000 is the launch engine for the Boeing 787. It is due to fly for the first time on the Rolls-Royce flying test bed in the first quarter of 2007. Certification is scheduled for Summer 2007, shortly before the 787's first flight. The Trent 1000 will enter into service on the 787 with ANA in mid-2008. 2. The Trent 1000 is the fifth member of the Trent series, the first of which entered service in 1995. By the time the Trent 1000 flies, previous versions of the Trent will have accumulated around 35 million flying hours. 3. Risk and revenue sharing partners on the Trent 1000 programme are Carlton Forge Works, Goodrich Corporation, Hamilton Sundstrand, Industria de Turbo Propulsores (ITP), Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI). 4. TotalCare agreements, tailored for individual customers, offer a range of services extending to aspects of support such as provision of lease engines, as well as repair and overhaul. Rolls-Royce takes full responsibility for care of the engine fleet in return for payment by the customer of an agreed dollar rate per flying hour. 5.
