Re Contract

8 September, 2005 POLAND'S LOT CHOOSES ROLLS-ROYCE TRENT 1000 TO POWER BOEING 787s LOT Polish Airlines has become the first European customer, and the fourth worldwide, to choose the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engine to power its Boeing 787 Dreamliners. The deal, valued at $400 million, is for engines to power seven aircraft on firm order, plus a further two options and five purchase rights. Rolls-Royce will be responsible for the maintenance of LOT's Trent 1000s under a 15-year TotalCareâ„¢ services agreement. Charles Cuddington, Managing Director, Airlines, at Rolls-Royce, said: "As the national flag carrier, LOT's growth is significant for aviation's future both in Poland and throughout the region. We're delighted to welcome them as our newest Trent customer and we look forward to working closely with LOT to ensure a smooth entry into service and the successful operation of its Trent-powered Dreamliners." LOT becomes the ninth airline in the Star Alliance grouping to select one or more versions of the Trent. The first of its 787s is scheduled for delivery in October 2008 Marek Grabarek, LOT's President and Chief Executive Officer, added: "The decision to select Rolls-Royce was taken after an exhaustive evaluation. We decided the Trent 1000 represented the best all-round choice for our 787s because of its high efficiency levels and superior economics over the long-term operation of the fleet." Although this is the first time LOT has selected large turbofan engines from Rolls-Royce, the airline uses one of the company's smaller powerplants, the AE 3007, on its fleet of 14 Embraer ERJ-145 regional jets. NOTE TO EDITORS 1. The Trent 1000 is the fifth member of the Trent family, the first of which entered service in 1995. Service experience of around 35 million flying hours will have been accumulated by all types of Trent by the time the twin engined 787 begins commercial operations with launch customer ANA (All Nippon Airways) in 2008. 2. Today's announcement takes the number of Trent 1000-powered 787s on firm order to 77. The engine had previously been selected by ANA, Air New Zealand and Northwest Airlines. 3. The Trent 1000 will fly for the first time on the Rolls-Royce Boeing 747 flying test bed in the first quarter of 2007. Certification by the airworthiness authorities is schedule for the summer of that year, just ahead of first flight of the 787. 4. Six risk and revenue sharing partners have taken a total investment share of 35 per cent in the Trent 1000. They are Carlton Forge Works, Goodrich Corporation, Hamilton Sundstrand, Industria de Turbo Propulsores (ITP), Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI). 5. In addition to LOT, other Star Alliance members to have selected versions of the Trent are Air Canada, Air New Zealand, ANA, bmi, Lufthansa, SAS, Singapore Airlines and Thai International. 6. TotalCareâ„¢ contracts are part of a wide range of aftermarket services offered by Rolls-Royce. Over 60 per cent of the Trent fleet worldwide is covered by these long-term agreements, under which Rolls-Royce is responsible for engine maintenance, typically based on an agreed dollar rate per flying hour. 7. Rolls-Royce activities in Poland include a marine production facility employing 300 people in Gniew. It also has a 40 per cent stake in Energobaltic, a cogeneration company in the Baltic coast town of Wladyslawowo.
