The Trent XWB will offer a range of thrusts from 75,000lb to 95,000lb to power all versions of the A350 XWB which is due to enter service in 2013. It will feature the same unique three-shaft architecture as its Trent predecessors combined with the latest service-ready innovations from the Rolls-Royce Vision technology demonstrator programmes to provide the lowest risk solution with maximum customer benefits. The latest noise and emissions reduction technology will ensure that the engine meets all current and proposed environmental legislation with significant margins. This new contract follows a preliminary agreement that was announced at the Farnborough International Airshow in July 2006. Sir John Rose, Chief Executive Officer at Rolls-Royce, said: "We are very happy to have reached this agreement with Airbus. It is an excellent opportunity for us to further develop our Trent family of engines. "The Trent XWB has evolved with the aircraft during the initial design process to ensurethat we can offer customers the optimum power solution for the A350 XWB. It will embrace the latest technologies from our Vision research programme to deliver an engine that meets the future needs of our customers." Louis Gallois, Chief Executive Officer of Airbus, added: "The philosophy of the A350 XWB is to provide an aircraft family with improved efficiency and environmental performance. Obviously our engine choice is crucial to this and we're pleased to have reached a firm agreement with Rolls-Royce to expand on our announcement at Farnborough and we know that the Trent XWB will give us the performance our customers demand." The Trent XWB will be tailored and fully optimised for the Airbus A350 XWB family of aircraft, providing the optimum mix of value and life cycle costs for Airline customers. A single engine type across the aircraft family will offer flexibility and the benefits of commonality.
