Saxony Consortium Chooses Elsevier's Leading On...

    - Scopus and ScienceDirect Enhance Research Experience at Saxony's Nine
Academic Libraries



    Elsevier announced today that the Saxony Consortium has signed a
licensing agreement to provide Scopus(R) and ScienceDirect(R) to their
research community. The agreement ensures that all nine academic libraries in
Saxony will provide more than ninety thousand students and researchers with
access to the world's most comprehensive and easy-to-use scientific,
technical and medical (STM) information tools. In addition, Elsevier's
standard 'walk-up' provision allows all German citizens free access to
scientific and medical information covered under these agreements.



    Scopus is the world's largest abstract and citation database of research
information and quality internet sources, while ScienceDirect provides users
with access to over a quarter of the world's full-text STM articles. Saxony's
students and researchers will now be able to seamlessly browse between the
two resources. This latest agreement complements the nationwide Deutsche
Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) license signed in May 2006 which provides the
entire Germany research community with access to ten Elsevier journal
backfile packages.

Saxony consortium will now join the growing number of academic institutes
that have confirmed their commitment to Scopus.



    The critical mass of information available on ScienceDirect is
unsurpassed. Coverage includes over 2000 journals published by Elsevier and
dynamic linking to journals from approximately 350 STM publishers through
CrossRef. An expanding program of online major reference works, handbooks and
