MONTANARO UK SMALLER COMPANIES INVESTMENT TRUST PLC              

The Company announces that on 4 August 2003 it repurchased for cancellation
350,000 Ordinary shares at a price of 123 pence per share.

The repurchase will reduce the number of Ordinary shares in issue to
36,937,578.
